Some of the finest examples of good literature come from South American writers who have or had Spanish as their first language. Besides Allende(one of my favourites), there's also Gabriel Garcia Marques, Jorge Luiz Borges, Pablo Neruda, García Lorca, Julio Cortázar, Florbela Espanca (beautiful poetry!), the list is endless. And yes, it's definitely worth reading them in their orginial language!

Hello, Xena: You are interested in Argentina, so I will speak about a very important book: MARTIN FIERRO. It describes the life of a gaucho at the end of the XIX. It is very interesting because it shows customs, their view of life and wisdom. Is there a Russian version?
Yes, there is!!!!!!!!!!!! I`ve found it in the internet. But only in on-line shops... I`ll try to find it in a bookshop! Thank you for advising me this book!

If you want to read an excellent argentinian writer, you should find Borges'books, they are fantastic, He is a great writer, and usually it is difficult to understand all his ideas, you have to know a lot about general culture.
